We are so excited to launch Duragraha with our inaugural issue: Rules. This theme seemed especially fitting for a time when rules have become flexible and seem to mean nothing, but are also being used as the justification for extreme cruelties. All the horrifying old rules we had become so familiar with are now rapidly mutating into more monstrous and inhuman versions of themselves.

Our communities are also writing new rules, about how we protect each other, push back against injustice, and how we document the changes around us. This issue’s essays and stories explore the theme of rules on their own terms: they are a mix of fiction, non-fiction, satire, and poignant bluntness. Our hope for this magazine is that it explores the spaces and overlap between the personal and political. This collection of writing does just that.

Thank you to everyone who helped put this issue together, and to everyone who’s here to read it. We hope it’s the first of many!

Sincerely,

The editing team
